Electrical Computer

Electronic computer history have many list of computer with different feature. Today, we will see in this article the few major and very popular electrical computer all time.  We know that earlier computer is used to be very big and not portable but even used for calculation. So let's start !

Important electrical computer list

    1. Mark-1 ( 1943 )

The Mark-1 computer was an electro-mechanical computer. This was developed by Howard Aiken at Harvard University. Initially this was built by IBM (International Business Machine) in the decade of 1943.

This computer was considered size about 55 feet long, 8 feet height and 5 tones of weight. This computer was capable to calculate about two 10 digit within the 5 second. There for this was very popular in computer industry in this decade.

    2. ENIAC- ( 1946 )

ENIAC stands for Electrical Numerical Integrator and Calculator. INIAC is considered as first electronical computer. This computer was developed by John Mauchly and john Presper Eckert in 1946. This computer was supposed to be very large in size and heavy which used punch card for input and store the data.

It was containing 18,000 vacuum tube, 30 ton weight, 30*50 Feet size, 20 accumulator, 6,000 switches, 1,50,000 watt electricity, 70,000 register and 10,000 capacitor. This computer was 5,000 faster than MARK-1.

This computer calculation was based on the decimal number system  instead of Binary number system. It's  memory was able to store small amount of data. This computer dominated the compute industry for years and  helped to perform various task.

    3. EDSAC ( 1949 )

ED-SAC is the acronym of Electric delay Storage Automatic Calculator. This computer is developed by Pro. M.V Wilkes at Cambridge University. This computer used Mercury For represent the storage and perform the computer task. It is said that, This compute used the John  Von Neumann concept in order to store the program in this computer system.

Basically, This program assisted to easily maintain the stored program. It could run only for a sort time because it heated up so fast and had to be shut down in order to cool off. The technology of the compute was a little different and better then it's all previous invented computer.

    4. UNIVAC ( 1951 )

The full for of UNIVAC is Universal Automatic Computer. This computer was developed by John presper Eckert and John Mauchly in the decade of 1951. This  computer used 10,000 vacuum tube Which was very less than MARK-1. It was capable to work for 24 Hours without any kind of technical disturbance.

It used magnetic tapes as input media and was self checking.   However, This computer was consuming a large amount of electricity that often resulted as Technical problem or system failure.

    5. EDVAC ( 1952 )

The EDVAC stands for Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer. This computer also was developed by John mauchly and John Presfer Eckert With the help of John Von Neuman. Basically, This was the first computer which which was working with storage program concept.

This computer had CPU( Central Processing Unit) and memory to store the data and program. This computer was based on Binary number system instead of Decimal number system.

This article most have been very useful for computer students. They most have cleared their basic concept regarding the Popular Electronic Computer. Please consider to leave you lovely feedback about this article either you like or not.
